A comprehensive guide to Da Tang Bu Ye Cheng, Xi'an's most vibrant Tang Dynasty-themed pedestrian street.
Da Tang Bu Ye Cheng (大唐不夜城) is a 1.5-kilometer-long pedestrian street in the Qujiang District of Xi'an, built to recreate the grandeur and romance of the Tang Dynasty. The street features illuminated architecture inspired by Tang Dynasty palace design, cultural performances, traditional music, and immersive experiences that bring ancient Chang'an to life.
Located south of the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, Da Tang Bu Ye Cheng is designed as a "step-back-in-time" experience. Visitors can enjoy live performances, traditional crafts, Tang Dynasty costumes and photo shoots, and a spectacular light show every evening. The street is especially magical during the Lantern Festival and other traditional Chinese holidays.
Starting from the north entrance (Giant Wild Goose Pagoda Metro Exit B), follow the schedule southward. Key shows along the route:
🔥 Two Must-See Viral Acts
Tang Dynasty Tumbler (不倒翁): The most iconic and widely-shared act of the entire street. Performers in exquisite Tang costumes gracefully sway atop weighted bases, reaching out with gentle, elegant gestures to interact with the audience — every smile radiates the refined romance of the Tang court. Why it's a must-see: this is the single most photographed moment here; every Chinese tourist shares a clip of it on social media.
Whirling Hu Xuan Dance (旋转胡璇): A Silk Road cultural showcase. Dancers in opulent Western Region flying-Apsara gowns spin rapidly to thunderous drumbeats, their flowing skirts blooming like peonies in the wind. Why it's a must-see: it's a breathtaking display of physical skill and the perfect finale before the grand "Return to Chang'an" show.
